How Royal Radio Became Reckless4Jesus
Hey y’all, and welcome to the new segment on the blog called, “How So&So Became Reckless4Jesus”, where I sit down with a friend, who has a heart for serving the Lord, and get them to share a little bit of what He’s done through them!
To start us off strong, my good friend, Brad Oliver, spilled the tea on how he and fellow pastors at Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church turned a dream of theirs into reality. If you already have the Royal Radio app downloaded on your phone, kudos to you! If not, you’re seriously missing out on the best Christian music, testimonies, and blogs (including my own *wink wink*). It’s perfect for anyone who’s not a big reader but a big Jesus lover.
Before the idea of Royal Radio was even developed, Lebanon’s sermons were broadcasted on 105.5 FM radio every Sunday. About 2 years ago, out of the blew, Lebanon was cut off. “They didn’t tell us they were dropping us. It was just like one morning we hear hip hop and we’re gone.” said Brad. After an unexpected hit like that, the last thing that the pastoral staff pictured it as, was a setback. The guys tried collaborating with other radio stations, which didn’t work out either, but they had a passion inside of them that was too strong to set off to the side. So what did God want them to do with it?
I think sometimes God puts a bunch of “no”s in our path to see how far we’re willing to go for Him. To see how bad we really want to please Him. Shortly after, Brad being the music director, and Andrew, one of the media guys, decided to take matters into their own hands by creating their very own radio app. “We just want to reach people anyway that we can. Whether that’s through encouraging music, or maybe it’s a blog, it’s all of our life stories written out, so we can affect somebody in a positive way to point them to who Jesus is. That’s the goal.” stated Brad. The cool part is at the start of this process, Brad knew nothing when it came to technology. In fact he would’ve laughed at you if you would’ve told him 5 years ago that he would be over this. Now after a lot of help and patience, thanks to Andrew, he programs the software and keeps the music fresh. I’m talking Toby Mac to Hillsong kind of fresh. God doesn’t expect you to know how to do everything, He just wants you to be ready. He wants you to say yes.
Another thing that I love about Royal Radio is that it’s internet based. Unlike a legit radio station, it doesn’t fade out. You can literally go anywhere in the world that has access to internet and play it! Not only is it convenient but it takes sharing Jesus’s love to a whole other level. Brad shared the following with me, “A mutual friend of ours, Melissa Black, texted me the other day and mentioned that she’s got a friend in Louisiana, that listens to the Royal Radio!” Melissa is such a sweet girl who recently gave her testimony and aired it onto the app. Through Royal Radio, God allows truth to be spoken and love to be spread all around the world. You don’t have to just listen along on the sidelines, we want you to be apart of what God’s doing as well. Feel the urge to share what God’s laid on your heart? Bring in your testimony, your advice, someone out there needs to hear it!
